Equipping
Leaders Internationally (ELI) is a community
based not-for-profit organization recently formed by
Paul and Virginia Nurmi, who
have worked for the past 30 years with youth in the US and abroad. That history
and experience have provided not only exposure to, and understanding of, young
people, but also relationships with a global network of those working with
youth in a variety of circumstances. Many of these youth leaders cannot
normally afford, or have tangible access to quality educational materials. In
order to address the need for engaging, practical information and the
dissemination of HIV/AIDS prevention materials, an Internet website has been
designed that is free of any charges or fees, is user-friendly and easily
downloadable. This website features donated materials from some of the premier
American abstinence education organizations and field-tested materials written
in the developing world. Though the site is available to anyone in the world
via the Internet, the target audience is youth leaders in the developing world,
particularly sub-Sahara Africa and the Caribbean.
Future projects will include providing other tangible resources such as
vehicles and computers.
